...A LOOK BACK AT THE CLIMATE FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 2009 FOR
CHICAGO AND ROCKFORD...

AT CHICAGO...THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 55.2 DEGREES WHICH IS
6.9 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.  THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 42.5
DEGREES WHICH IS 0.4 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.  THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
FOR THE MONTH WAS 48.9 DEGREES WHICH IS 3.2 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.
6.04 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED WHICH IS 3.33 INCHES ABOVE
NORMAL. A TRACE OF SNOW WAS RECORDED WHICH IS 0.3 INCHES BELOW
NORMAL.

A RECORD DAILY SNOWFALL OF A TRACE WAS TIED FOR OCTOBER 16. THIS
TIES THE RECORD OF A TRACE SET BACK IN 1943. OCTOBER 2009 WILL GO
DOWN AS THE 9TH WETTEST AND THE 11TH COLDEST ON RECORD.

AT ROCKFORD...THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 54.6 DEGREES WHICH
IS 7.2 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.  THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 39.8
DEGREES WHICH IS 0.3 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.  THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
FOR THE MONTH WAS 47.2 DEGREES WHICH IS 3.8 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.
5.94 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED WHICH IS 3.37 INCHES ABOVE
NORMAL. A TRACE OF WAS RECORDED WHICH IS 0.1 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.

A RECORD DAILY SNOWFALL OF A TRACE WAS TIED FOR OCTOBER 10.  THIS
TIES THE RECORD OF A TRACE SET IN 1990.
A RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 25 DEGREES WAS SET FOR OCTOBER 11. THE
PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 26 SET IN 1987.
A RECORD DAILY RAINFALL OF 1.52 INCHES WAS SET FOR OCTOBER 23. THE
PREVIOUS RECORD HAD BEEN 1.42 INCHES SET IN 1972.
OCTOBER 2009 WILL GO DOWN AS THE 5TH WETTEST AND 9TH COLDEST ON
