Uniform Resource Locator (URL) changes have been implemented for the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) web pages. Bookmarked pages will be automatically redirected to the new URLs. Please update your bookmarks when redirected.
New Changes to our AHPS pages include:
Specifically, the following changes have been made:
National River Conditions Point Map:
old url: http://www.weather.gov/ahps
new url: http://water.weather.gov
National Precipitation Analysis Map:
old url: http://water.weather.gov
new url: http://water.weather.gov/precip
National Precipitation Analysis Download Directory:
old url: http://water.weather.gov/p_download_new/
new url: http://water.weather.gov/precip/p_download_new/
National Precipitation Analysis-One Day
old url: http://water.weather.gov/p_download_new/2010/201003/nws_precip_20100304.tar.gz
new url: http://water.weather.gov/precip/p_download_new/YYYY/M/D/nws_precip_1day_observed_shape_YYYYMMDD.tar.gz
new url: http://water.weather.gov/precip/p_download_new/2010/3/4/nws_precip_1day_observed_shape_20100304.tar.gz
National River Conditions Real Simple Syndication Feeds:
old url: http://www.weather.gov/ahps/rss
new url: http://water.weather.gov/ahps/rss
Hydrologic Service Area Map pages
old url: http://xxxxxxxxxxx/ahps2/index.phpxxxx?wfo=zzz
new url: http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/index.php?wfo=zzz
example: http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/index.php?wfo=lot (use "lot" for NWS Chicago links)
Hydrograph pages...xml pages...and River Gauge Tabular pages will all have the following new domain name:
Hydrograph Pages - after the new domain name...the rest of the hydrograph page addresses will not change...that is...both the old and new addresses use:
old url: http://old.domain.name/ahps2/hydrograph.php...
new url: http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php...
xml Pages - after the new domain name, the rest of the address will change as follows:
old ending: /ahps2/xml/yyyyy_hgirg.xml
new ending: /ahps2/hydrograph_to_xml.php?gage=yyyyy&output=xml
old url: http://old_domain_name/ahps2/xml/yyyyy_hgirg.xml
new url: http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph_to_xml.php...
AHPS River Gauge Tabular Data pages – after the new domain name, the rest of the address will change as follows:
old ending: /ahps2/tabular.php?wfo=zzz&gage=yyyyy
new ending: /ahps2/hydrograph_to_xml.php?gage=yyyyy&output=tabular
old url: http://xxxxxxxxxxxx/ahps2/tablular.php?wfo=zzz
new url: http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph_to_xml.php?gage=yyyyy&output=tabular
In the above examples, zzz is the NWS forecast office identifier and yyyyy is the NWS location identifier for a point along a river or stream.
Other pages follow the pattern in the examples above where the domain name immediately following http:// is replaced with the new domain name water.weather.gov.
These changes have been made in conjunction with infrastructure changes to increase the reliability for the NWS web-based hydrologic services.
These URL changes will not affect users who access NWS web-based hydrologic services through the tabs on the NWS main page at http://www.weather.gov. Users who access either the National River Conditions Point Map or other AHPS pages through bookmarks will be automatically redirected to the new URLs and can update their bookmarks after the redirection.
Users who currently bookmark the national precipitation map at water.weather.gov will be directed to the AHPS main page. The National Precipitation Map will be accessible from a tab on the main page and the bookmark can be updated at that time.
Users who automatically interrogate the NWS Hydrologic Services Web Pages to obtain hydrologic forecasts and data will have to change the URL in their procedures so they access the correct web location.
