...RECORD LONG STRETCH OF WARMTH CONTINUES AS DOES THE RECORD LONG
STRETCH OF NO TRUE CHICAGO HEAT...

OUR RECORD BREAKING STREAK OF CONSECUTIVE DAYS IN CHICAGO WITH
HIGH TEMPERATURES AT OR ABOVE 80 DEGREES ENDED BACK ON AUGUST 17TH
WHEN THE HIGH TEMPERATURE MISSED 80 BY 1 DEGREE. WHILE THAT STREAK
HAS ENDED...CHICAGO`S STRETCH OF CONSECUTIVE DAYS WITH HIGHS AT OR
ABOVE 79 DEGREES CONTINUES AND IS ALSO A RECORD BREAKER. TODAY
MARKED THE 55TH CONSECUTIVE DAY THAT THE HIGH HAS BEEN AT LEAST 79
DEGREES. THE PREVIOUS RECORD LONGEST STRETCH WITH HIGHS OF AT LEAST
79 DEGREES WAS 43 BACK IN 1955...DURING THE SAME PERIOD THAT THE
PREVIOUS RECORD LONG STREAK OF 80+ DAYS OCCURRED.

THE SUMMER OF 2010 WILL UNDOUBTEDLY GO DOWN IN THE BOOKS AS A WARM
SUMMER...BUT DESPITE ITS WARMTH...IT REALLY HAS YET TO BE
PARTICULARLY HOT. IN FACT...THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE RECORDED SO
FAR THIS SUMMER IN CHICAGO HAS BEEN 94 BACK ON JULY 23RD.
INDICATIONS ARE THAT WE WILL SEE A SIGNIFICANT WARM UP THIS
WEEKEND AND INTO NEXT WEEK...BUT AS THE DAYS GROW SHORTER AND SUN
ANGLE GETS LOWER IN THE SKY IT BECOMES MUCH MORE DIFFICULT FOR
HIGHS TO REACH 95 DEGREES. ON AVERAGE...ONLY ABOUT 3 PERCENT OF
DAYS HAVE REACHED 95 DEGREES DURING THE LAST FEW DAYS OF AUGUST
THROUGH MID SEPTEMBER...SO WHILE NOT IMPOSSIBLE...IT IS MUCH MORE
DIFFICULT TO DO THIS LATE IN THE SUMMER.

IF CHICAGO DOES INDEED FAIL TO REACH 95 DEGREES THIS SUMMER...IT
WILL BE THE 4TH SUMMER IN A ROW THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED...WHICH
WOULD A FIRST IN CHICAGO WEATHER HISTORY. IN FACT...THE CHICAGO
CUBS HAVE WON A WORLD SERIES MORE RECENTLY THAN THE LAST TIME
CHICAGO SAW SUCH A LONG DROUGHT OF 95+ DEGREE HEAT. THE ONLY OTHER
TIME CHICAGO HAS STRUNG 3 SUMMERS IN A ROW TOGETHER WITHOUT
REACHING 95 DEGREES WAS BACK 1902-04. THE LAST TIME CHICAGO HIT
THE 95 DEGREE MARK WAS BACK ON AUGUST 2ND 2006...OR 1482 DAYS AGO
WHICH ALSO IS A RECORD. THE PREVIOUS LONGEST STRETCH OF DAYS IN
CHICAGO WITHOUT REACHING A HIGH OF 95 DEGREES WAS 1451 SET BACK IN
1902-05 PERIOD.
