Expansion of River Forecast Services on the Rock River at Dixon, IL

Beginning December 15, 2010...the National Weather Service Chicago Forecast Office will begin providing river forecast and flood warning services for the Rock River at Dixon Illinois. Flood stage for the new point at Dixon located at the Peoria Avenue bridge will be designated as 16 ft. Flood stage and flood impact levels should be considered provisional and may be modified at a later date based on updated field observations or other supporting data.

River forecast and flood warning information will be available from the NOAA/NWS Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service page by clicking  on the Rivers & Lakes link under Hydrology menu on the lefthand menu of the NWS Chicago web site.

River flood information will also be broadcast on the Dixon Illinois NOAA Weather Radio KZZ55.

Implementation of this new river forecast point has come about with cooperation from other agencies including the U.S. Geological Survey,Illinois Department of Natural Resources/Office of Water Resources, and the Lee County Emergency Management Agency.
