Storm Reports via Twitter

An example of a snow report/photo "tweet"

On April 15, 2010, the National Weather Service issued a Public Information Statement to introduce an experimental program utilizing the popular social networking service Twitter. For the first time, users  were enabled to "tweet" significant weather reports to the NWS to supplement reports received via traditional methods at the forecast offices. With the onset of meteorological winter and the snow that comes with it, we here at WFO Chicago would like to encourage any Twitter users in the forecast area to submit snowfall reports with their Twitter accounts.  Here is the link to the NWS page explaining the program and the specific format instructions for sending significant weather "tweets:"
