Backyard Weather Observers Wanted - CoCoRaHS Training Saturday Oct 20 Ottawa, IL

CoCoRaHS LogoAre you interested in measuring rain, hail, and snow from your own backyard? If so, then please consider joining the Illinois CoCoRaHS team. CoCoRaHS stands for the Community, Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow network. Illinois became part of the CoCoRaHS network in December 2006.  We are looking for additional observers in La Salle, Bureau, and surrounding counties.

Training is free and typically lasts between an hour and an hour and a half and covers all of the essential information that you will need to sign up for the program, set up your rain gage (and snow board), and report your observations. 


The following training sessions have been scheduled in October for current or prospective observers:

LaSalle County - Ottawa, IL Saturday Oct 20 at 10 AM.

LaSalle County Emergency Management Agency, 711 E. Etna Road, Ottawa, IL
Directions: Etna road is just south of I-80. Take the east entrance to the Etna Rd LaSalle County complex (about 1/2 mile east of Rt 23) and then follow the road about 600 feet south until you reach the EMA building. The EMA building is located on the far southeast portion of the complex.

Registration

CoCoRaHS Rain Gauge

Observers are required to purchase an official CoCoRaHS rain gauge for just under $30 available from vendors listed on the CoCoRaHS home page. Internet access is required. Learn more about CoCoRaHS at  www.cocorahs.org.
