As part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week, National Weather Service (NWS) offices serving Illinois issue a test tornado warning for all Illinois counties. This Statewide Tornado Drill was originally scheduled for Tuesday March 5 at 1000 AM. Due to a major winter storm impacting the north half of Illinois Tuesday, the NWS, in cooperation with the Illinois State Emergency Communications Committee and the Illinois Broadcasters Association, has decided to postpone the tornado drill until Wednesday March 6 at 1000 AM.
The test tornado warning will be issued like a real warning. It will be disseminated through all normal communications, including NOAA Weather Radio - All Hazards, with the tone alert and S.A.M.E./EAS codes.
