...A LOOK BACK AT THE CLIMATE FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH 2013 FOR
CHICAGO AND ROCKFORD...

AT CHICAGO...THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 39.6 DEGREES WHICH IS
7 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 25.6
DEGREES WHICH IS 3.6 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.  THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
FOR THE MONTH WAS 32.6 DEGREES WHICH IS 5.3 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.
2.00 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WERE RECORDED WHICH IS 0.50 INCHES BELOW
NORMAL. 10.4 INCHES OF SNOW WERE RECORDED WHICH IS 4.8 INCHES ABOVE
NORMAL.

TWO DAILY RECORDS WERE SET AT CHICAGO FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH. THE
FIRST RECORD WAS SET ON MARCH 5TH WHEN 9.2 INCHES OF SNOW WERE
RECORDED WHICH BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 3.8 INCHES SET IN 1999. THIS
WAS ALSO THE FIRST SNOWFALL OF 6 INCHES OR MORE IN CHICAGO SINCE THE
FEBRUARY 1-2 2011 BLIZZARD. THE SECOND RECORD WAS SET ON MARCH 10TH
WHEN 0.87 INCHES OF RAIN WERE RECORDED WHICH BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF
0.84 INCHES SET IN 1922.

MARCH 2013 FOR CHICAGO WAS THE COLDEST SINCE 1996 AND SNOWIEST SINCE
2002.

AT ROCKFORD...THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 37 DEGREES WHICH
IS 9.9 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.  THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 22
DEGREES WHICH IS 5.5 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.  THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
FOR THE MONTH WAS 29.5 DEGREES WHICH IS 7.7 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.
2.29 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WERE RECORDED WHICH IS 0.03 INCHES BELOW
NORMAL. 13.9 INCHES OF SNOW WERE RECORDED WHICH IS 9.1 INCHES ABOVE
NORMAL.
