Navy Pier, Illinois' most popular tourist attraction, is now a StormReady Supporter! Navy Pier is host to 8.6 million visitors a year. Home to cruise ships and tour boats of all sizes, a 150 foot tall ferris wheel, a glass atrium, and outdoor park space, visitors to Navy Pier can be exposed to a variety of weather hazards. Navy Pier has developed an in depth hazardous weather plan, which includes: redundant methods of receiving severe weather warnings and information, methods to disseminate critical severe weather information to staff and patrons, staff training on severe weather procedures, designated tornado shelter areas, and trained storm spotters. Congratulations to Navy Pier!

This StormReady Supporter designation is a part of the ongoing Tornado-Ready Chicago campaign, a project encouraging severe weather preparedness for large outdoor venues in and around Chicago. Participnats in the Tornado-Ready Chicago program include Chicago area TV meteorologists, emergency managers, and the National Weather Service.
