Summary

Fall 2013 was characterized by a warm September and start to October, followed by generally much cooler conditions, with a few exceptions. Temperatures for the season ended up near to slightly below average. After a very dry September, precipitation recovered in October and November, with totals still ending up  1 to 4 inches below normal for much of the area. Some locations benefited from heavy rainfall events in October and November to finish between 2 and 4 inches above normal on the season.

CHICAGO AND ROCKFORD...

AT CHICAGO...THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THE FALL SEASON WAS
61.6 DEGREES WHICH IS 0.2 DEGREES BELOW THE 1981 TO 2010 AVERAGE.
THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 43.6 DEGREES WHICH IS 0.4 OF A
DEGREE ABOVE NORMAL. THE MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR THE SEASON WAS 52.6
DEGREES WHICH IS 0.1 OF A DEGREE ABOVE NORMAL.

A TOTAL OF 7.78 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED DURING THIS
PAST FALL...WHICH IS 1.73 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THERE WAS ALSO A
TOTAL OF 0.9 OF AN INCH OF SNOW THAT WAS RECORDED AT OHARE WHICH
IS 0.5 OF AN INCH BELOW NORMAL.

ONE SIGNIFICANT RECORD WAS TIED DURING THE FALL MONTHS WHEN THE HIGH
REACHED 95 DEGREES ON SEPTEMBER 10. THIS TIED THE OLD RECORD SET IN
1983 FOR THAT DATE.

AT ROCKFORD...THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 61.7 DEGREES WHICH IS
0.2 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 40.6
DEGREES WHICH IS 0.5 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR
THE SEASON WAS 51.2 DEGREES WHICH IS 0.3 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.

A TOTAL OF 6.88 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED DURING THIS
PAST FALL...WHICH WAS 1.72 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. IN ADDITION...A
TOTAL OF 1.0 INCH OF SNOW WAS RECORDED WHICH IS 0.8 OF AN INCH BELOW
NORMAL.

TWO SIGNIFICANT RECORDS WERE TIED IN THE FALL MONTHS OF 2013 AT
ROCKFORD.
THE HIGH OF 96 DEGREES ON SEPTEMBER 10 TIED THE RECORD HIGH
SET IN 1931 FOR THAT DATE.
THE LOW OF 23 DEGREES ON OCTOBER 25 TIED THE RECORD LOW SET
IN 1987 FOR THAT DATE.
