...A LOOK BACK AT THE CLIMATE FOR THE MONTH OF DECEMBER 2013 FOR
CHICAGO AND ROCKFORD...

FOR CHICAGO...THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 31.1 DEGREES WHICH IS
3.7 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 15.6
DEGREES WHICH IS 5.1 DEGREE BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
FOR THE MONTH WAS 23.4 DEGREES WHICH IS 4.3 DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL. 1.94 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED DURING THE MONTH
WHICH IS 0.31 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. 14.2 INCHES OF SNOWFALL WAS
RECORDED DURING DECEMBER WHICH IS 6.0 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.

NO SIGNIFICANT RECORDS WERE SET OR TIED DURING THE MONTH AT CHICAGO
OHARE AIRPORT. DECEMBER 2013 WILL GO DOWN AS THE 21ST COLDEST
DECEMBER ON RECORD.

FOR ROCKFORD...THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 28.3 DEGREES WHICH
IS 4.9 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 10.5
DEGREES WHICH IS 7.2 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 19.4 DEGREES WHICH IS 6.0 DEGREES
BELOW NORMAL. 1.69 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED WHICH IS
0.29 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. 17.7 INCHES OF SNOWFALL WAS RECORDED
DURING DECEMBER WHICH IS 6.4 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.

TWO RECORDS WAS SET AT ROCKFORD DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER 2013.
ON DECEMBER 22 A RECORD RAINFALL OF 0.56 INCHES WAS SET. THIS BROKE
THE OLD RECORD OF 0.53 INCHES SET IN 1979. ANOTHER RECORD WAS SET ON
DECEMBER 22 FOR SNOWFALL WHEN 5.0 INCHES FELL. THIS BROKE THE OLD
RECORD OF 3.4 INCHES SET IN 2009.

DECEMBER 2013 WILL GO DOWN AS THE 13TH COLDEST DECEMBER ON
RECORD...AND THE 14TH SNOWIEST ON RECORD.
