...SNOW DEPTH STATS THROUGH FEBRUARY 24TH...

SNOW ON THE GROUND CONTINUES TO PERSIST ACROSS MUCH OF NORTHERN
ILLINOIS AND FOR SOME AREAS...INCLUDING ROCKFORD...THIS IS CLOSING
IN ON THREE MONTHS STRAIGHT. MUCH OF NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS
INCLUDING PARTS OF THE NORTHERN CHICAGO METRO HAVE HAD SUSTAINED
SNOW COVER SINCE EARLY DECEMBER 2013 AND THAT IS CLIMBING WELL UP
IN THE HISTORICAL RANKINGS. AS FOR THE CENTRAL AND SOUTH CHICAGO
METRO AND LOCATIONS SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 80...INCLUDING NORTHWEST
INDIANA...BRIEF MILDER TEMPERATURES AND RAINFALL DURING THE SECOND
WEEKEND OF JANUARY HELPED LEAD TO A MELTING OF MUCH SNOW COVER.
HOWEVER...MOST OF THESE AREAS HAVE HAD SNOW COVER EVER SINCE THAT
MELTING EPISODE.
