Smoke From Georgia Fires Reach Wisconsin

South-southeasterly low to mid level winds are transporting the smoke plume from forest fires in southern Georgia into the Upper Midwest.
The smoke is seen as the wispy white streamers within the yellow borders on this visible satellite image…moving from southern Georgia across Alabama turning north up the Mississippi River Valley though Illinois.
The smoke is contributing to the hazy conditions in southern Wisconsin this afternoon…as convective processes with the maximum heating of the day mix the smoke down from the mid-levels of the atmosphere. This mixing is also bringing stronger winds down to the surface. There is a wind advisory for much of southern Wisconsin until 6 pm.
