A thunderstorm intensified over southeastern Marquette County around 1 pm Thursday afternoon in the area around the intersection of Grouse Ave. and State Highway 22. This hailstorm dumped enough hail to cover the ground and roads white, at least for an hour or so. Strong gusty winds also accompanied the hailstorm, and some small tree branches came down. Most of this occurred in the timeframe of 115 pm to 130 pm. The storm moved southeast into northern Columbia County and quickly fell apart.
Below are a couple pictures taken by Kevin Grahm, Deputy Emergency Management Director for Marquette County near the intersection of STH 22 and Grouse Ave. It appears that the hailstones were up to penny size, but some melting probably occurred. Consequently, the largest hailstones were probably 1 inch in diameter at peak storm intensity.
If residents in southeast Marquette County had hailstones of around 1 inch or bigger, please notify the Milwaukee/Sullivan National Weather Service Forecast Office at firstname.lastname@example.org
