Feb. 8-9 Winter Storm Wrap Up

The combination of low pressure passing well to the south of Wisconsin and enhanced snowfall from lake effect resulted in widespread snow across southern Wisconsin on Tuesday.  The snow began Monday night, and tapered off from west to east Tuesday night.  The last band of enhanced lake effect snowfall diminished in the Racine and Kenosha areas around midnight Tuesday night.

The graphic below depicts the observed track of the surface low as it tracked from northern Minnesota southeast into Ohio.  On Tuesday, the surface low which brought snow to Wisconsin merged with another surface low moving north out of Texas.

The map below is a representation of storm total snowfall reports recieved from observers across southern Wisconsin.

South central Wisconsin received a widespread 4 to 7 inch blanket of fresh snow.  Snowfall doubled farther east in portions of southeast Wisconsin where bands of heavy lake effect snow occurred.  The heaviest snow of 10 to 14 inches occurred from the Sheboygan area to West Bend, Hartford, Port Washington, Waukesha, Brookfield, Milwaukee, Union Grove, Racine and Kenosha.

The highest snowfall report recieved was 13.3 inches reported 6 miles northwest of Kenosha in Kenosha county.
