Wisconsin River Flooding near Portage - Updated 3 pm Tuesday

...WISCONSIN RIVER FALLING AT PORTAGE AND WISCONSIN DELLS...

WATER LEVELS ON THE WISCONSIN RIVER AT PORTAGE ARE DROPPING SLOWLY
AND ARE EXPECTED TO DROP MORE RAPIDLY THIS EVENING AND
OVERNIGHT...AS UPSTREAM LEVELS ALSO COME DOWN.  THE LATEST STAGE AT
PORTAGE WAS 20.22 FEET AT 2 PM...DOWN FROM THE CREST OF 20.66 FEET
THAT OCCURRED YESTERDAY EVENING.  WATER LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO DROP
BELOW THE FLOOD STAGE OF 17 FEET BY EARLY WEDNESDAY...AND BE DOWN 4
TO 5 FEET FROM WHERE THEY ARE NOW BY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

UPSTREAM...THE AUTOMATED RIVER GAUGING STATION AT THE WISCONSIN DELLS
SHOWED THE WATER LEVELS WERE FALLING STEADILY. THE WISCONSIN RIVER
AT WISCONSIN DELLS FELL BELOW THE FLOOD STAGE OF 16 FEET AROUND 1 PM
TODAY AFTER CRESTING AROUND 17.56 FEET EARLY MONDAY AFTERNOON. THE
LATEST STAGE WAS 15.83 FEET AT 2 AM.

THERE HAS BEEN NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE SAND LEVEE ON THE SOUTH
SIDE OF THE WISCONSIN RIVER NEAR PORTAGE. AS OF TUESDAY
AFTERNOON...THE LEVEE WAS STILL HOLDING AND THE RATE OF
DETERIORATION HAS SLOWED. THE LEVEE IS LOCATED NEAR BLACKHAWK ROAD
IN THE TOWN OF CALEDONIA AND LEWISTON AREAS.

LITTLE OR NO RAIN IS IN THE FORECAST FOR WISCONSIN FOR THE REST
OF THIS WEEK.
