2011 Fall Student Volunteer/Internships call for applications

Issued 520 pm CDT Mon June 27th 2011

We are currently announcing several opportunities for either Student Volunteers or Student for credit internships at the National Weather Service at Milwaukee/Sullivan WI in the Fall of 2011.  This is ideal for students in their first 1-3 years of college in fields like Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Hydrology, Computer Science, or Information Technology.

If you are attending UW Milwaukee or UW Madison, you can sign up for college credit rather than volunteering.  Or you may choose to volunteer.  Regardless, the experience will be roughly the same for you.

All volunteer/internship positions will feature roughly 4-8 hours one day per week.  50% of the time you'll be job shadowing at our Meteorologist Intern desk.  The other 50% of the time you'll be working on meteorology, hydrology, or computer related projects assigned by our staff.

Fall 2011:  If you are interested, by Friday July 15th 2011, please send me a one page resume to the e-mail address at the bottom of this page.  You may include a cover letter and references if you wish.  In the subject line of the e-mail, please reference Fall 2011 Student Volunteer.  We will be selecting 2-3 positions for the September - December 2011 period.   If selected, this involves a full security clearance plus fingerprinting (at a cost of about $10 to the student).

You will come in once per week for roughly 8 hours.   Additional information is available at the link below.
