This morning isthe coldest morning of the season for much of southern Wisconsin and the coldest in over 2 years for Milwaukee.
Milwaukee's Mitchell Field ended a 733 day stretch (more than 2 years) since the temperatures dropped to zero or below. This was the record longest stretch of days above zero for the city. The next longest streak was 422 days ending in March of 2002.
The images below show the low temperatures and the coldest windchills recorded .
The next image is an analyzed map of low temperatures based on more than 150 reports across the state from automated stations and cooperative observers. The coldest temperature reported in Wisconsin this morning was -37 degrees in Minong in Washburn County. International Falls, Minnesota recorded a temperature of -46 degrees this morning!
Also something interesting we noted this morning...models did a pretty good job of nailing down these temperatures. The images below are an analysis of observation temperatures at 6am Friday (left) and a model image from Saturday of temperatures for 6am Friday.
