Forecast of snowfall rates/wind gusts overnight

Updated 900 pm CST Tue Feb 1st 2011

The following two charts describe the conditions about every 3 hours we are expecting tonight during the Blizzard.   The first map shows the expected hourly accumulation rates of the snow across southern and southeast Wisconsin.  The worst conditions will be from about 10 pm to 2 am, when snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour and locally as high as 3 inches per hour in extreme southeast WI are likely.

The second map shows the forecast wind gusts across the area.  The highest wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph are expected to create whiteout conditions across southeast Wisconsin around midnight.  Isolated gusts up to 60 mph are possible, especially along the immediate Lake Shore from Milwaukee to the Illinois border.  These winds are going to whip up 5 to 10 foot drifts over a wide area.
