Coolest Start to Spring at Milwaukee & Madison Since 1996 - Updated 4/28

Since the first day of spring, March 20th through April 28th, the average temperature at Milwaukee and Madison has been the coolest since 1996.  When comparing this year’s start of spring to historical records, Milwaukee is tied for the 39th coolest in the past 141 years, while Madison tied for the 41st coolest in the past 143 years.  Since 1980, only 1982, ‘83, and ‘96 had cooler starts to spring at Milwaukee, while 1982, ‘83, ’92, and ’96 were cooler at Madison.

Looking at only high temperatures since the start of spring, the average high temperature at Milwaukee and Madison has been the coolest since 1983. Comparing this year’s average of the first 40 high temperatures of spring to historical records, Milwaukee tied for the 28th coolest in the past 141 years, while Madison is tied for the 31st coolest in the past 143 years.
