The Top Ten Warmest Starts for January - Milwaukee and Madison

It has been a warmer than normal winter so far, with January 2012 continuing that trend, with average temperatures for all but two days of the first nine above normal at both Milwaukee and Madison. To date, the average temperatures through the first 9 days of the month are running 8.8 degrees above normal at MIlwaukee, and 11.4 degrees above at Madison.

So how does this compare to other years with a warm start to the New Year? With expected high temperatures of 45 to 50 Wednesday, and low temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees, closer to what the normal high temperatures should be, we decided to take a look at the warmest average temperatures for the first ten days of January in the climate records for MIlwaukee and Madison from 1850 through 2011 to see how this year matches up.
