Below is an aerial view of fog and low stratus clouds in the Port Washington area of Ozaukee County, taken on March 16, 2012. The picture was taken by Mark Was, photographer for WTMJ TV-4 Milwauke. Thanks Mark! Note the smoke stack plume in the upper left portion of the picture. The winds on that day were generally blowing inland from Lake Michigan at around 5 mph. Air in contact with the still cool the Lake Michigan waters was cooled down to its dewpoint resulting in the formation of fog over the lake. This moist, cool air was advected inland by on-shore light winds. Click on the image for a larger version.
