Hail - What Do You Know About It?

Hail is a fascinating weather phenomena.

It doesn't occur with every thunderstorm, but large hail is one of two trigger points for the issuance of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings.  The warning triggers are hailstones 1 inch in diameter or larger and/or downburst, straight-line winds of 58 mph or higher.

During the spring of 2013, Ashley Vedvig, our Student Volunteer who is attending the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, composed a document on hail.  This document explains how hail forms, where it most commonly falls, discusses hail myths and provides many other interesting facts, images and graphics.
