Peak Wind Gusts Sunday Night

A strong arctic front blasted through the Upper Midwest Sunday afternoon and evening.  Blustery northwest winds developed behind this front and lasted several hours Sunday evening.  Wind gusts ranged from 30 to 48 mph across most of south central and southeast Wisconsin between 5 pm and midnight.  The strong winds blowing the recent 3 to 5 inches of powdery snow around caused white-out conditions at times, especially in southwest Wisconsin.

The graphics below show peak wind gusts (mph) recorded at official and non-official weather observation sites (between 10:00 am Sunday, January 26th and 10:00 am Monday, January 27th).
