During the afternoon of May 1st, a weakening area of low pressure moved into western Minnesota during the late afternoon. This brought a warm front up into central Minnesota, which provided a focus for a strong supercell that tracked across Stearns county. This produced a brief and weak tornado that touched down in open fields near Brooten, but of more significance was the golf ball and larger size hail that basically fell right down the I-94 corridor into St. Cloud. Later in the evening, a line of thunderstorms developed along a cold front over eastern South Dakota that eventually tracked across all but the northwest portion of the MPX area. No severe weather was reported with this line of storms, though it did bring some much needed widespread precipitation to the region, with many locations recieving around an inch of rainfall. The highest rainfall report received was 3.11 inches on the campus of St. Cloud State University.
