95 degree high in the Twin Cities on 9/11 - A historical perspective

How hot has it been so far this year?  Here are some interesting statistics from the Minnesota State Climatology Office regarding the abnormally warm weather in the Twin Cities:

Last time it was 95 degrees or warmer on or after September 11th was in 1939...

Yesterday marked only the 8th time (and 5th year) in the 139-year Twin Cities record where the max temp reached or exceeded 95 degrees F on, or after, 9/11. It was the first time this has happened since 1939.

There have been 31 days this year which reached or exceeded 90 degrees...

2012 was a warm summer in the Twin Cities, with the warmth extending into September. The normal number of days in a year to reach at least 90 degrees is 13. As of September 11 there have been 31 days with a maximum temperature of 90 degrees or higher in the Twin Cities. This is enough to be in a three-way tie for the seventh most number of 90 degree high temperatures. The record number of 90 degree days in a year for the Twin Cities was 44 during the memorable summer of 1988. The 30 days of 90 degrees or above is the most in the Twin Cities since 1988.
