Subject: Change in flood stage on the Trap Rock River near Lake Linden

Near Lake Linden:
Recent changes to the Trap Rock River watershed, specifically the addition
of drainage ditches in flood prone areas and the construction of a larger
bridge opening upstream of the gauge site, have helped mitigate the flood
potential in this area.  Despite these modifications, flooding remains a
concern. Upon coordination with the local Emergency Manager, flood stage on
the Trap Rock River near Lake Linden will be raised from 8.5 feet to 9.5
feet. There will be no change to moderate and major flood stages, which are
11 and 12.5 feet, respectively.

The National Weather Service office in Marquette has implemented
Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) for select rivers in
Upper Michigan and the upper portions of the Menominee River basin.
AHPS enables the National Weather Service to provide long-range probabilistic
information which can be used to determine the level of risk for long-range
planning decisions.  Additional supportive data and explanation are available
on the internet at:
