Severe Weather Possible This Afternoon and Evening

There is a potential for severe weather to affect Upper Michigan this afternoon and evening.  At this time, thunderstorms are expected to redevelop in Wisconsin this afternoon and move northeast into western Upper Michigan late this afternoon.  The thunderstorms are then expected to push east across the rest of Upper Michigan during the evening. Large Hail, Damaging Wind, and Heavy Rain are possible with the strongest storms. There is also a slight risk for Tornadoes near Wisconsin border.

Here are a few items to keep in mind during severe weather events:

  • Severe weather is always a possibility in Upper Michigan.  In 2010, 36 severe thunderstorm warnings were issued by NWS Marquette.
  • In addition to recent snowmelt, heavy rainfall can lead to an increase in water levels in Upper Michigan’s creeks, streams and rivers.  Monitor the latest river information.
