National Emergency Alert System Test - November 9, 2011

On Wednesday, November 9th 2011, a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System will be conducted. This test will be heard on broadcast radio and seen on local television, cable television, and satellite television across the United States.

This nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System will not be heard over NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio. This test message should contain the phrase...this is a test.  This test will last for approximately one minute before regular programming will resume.

Since a test of the Emergency Alert System has never been conducted before on this scale, it is possible that some television scrolls or television interrupt messages may not contain the phrase, “this is a test.”

Again...this nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System will not be heard over NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio.

To avoid any confusion with the National EAS test, The NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio  Routine Weekly Test that would normally be conducted on Wednesday, November 9th, will instead be held on Tuesday, November 8th.
