Amateur radio operators and members of the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette will participate in the 2011 SKYWARN Recognition Day on December 2-3.
During the event, WX8MQT, the NWS Marquette amateur radio station, will make contacts with other NWS offices and amateur radio operators across North America. WX8MQT will be on the air Friday, December 2 from 7 PM to Midnight EST and from 7 AM to 7 PM EST on Saturday, December 3. Click here for more information about the event.
Amateur radio operators are among a group of volunteers, known as "storm spotters," who report real-time severe storm and snow conditions to the NWS. Their volunteer efforts greatly enhance the warning and forecast programs, leading to the protection of lives and property. SKYWARN Recognition Day allows the NWS to recognize and thank them for their work.
