Today is Father's Day, so we thought it would be interesting to look up some fun weather facts for previous Father's Days here at the NWS office in Negaunee, MI.  Father's Day became an official national holiday in 1972, so we researched Father's Days from 1972 to 2011 and came up with the coldest, warmest, and wettest Father's Days on record for the 40 year period.

The Coldest Father's Day... June 16, 1974 
That day experienced cloudy conditions and rain most of the day, allowing only a small deviation between the high and low temperature. The low that day was 42 degrees, with the high only reaching 45, giving an average of 44 degrees.  Brrrrrr. 

In close second was Father's Day 1992 (June 21), where the low was a chilly 34 degrees.  Luckily the high temperature warmed to 55 that day, bringing the average temperature up to 45 degrees.

The Hottest Father's Day... June 18, 1995 
Sun was not an issue on Father's Day 1995.   The low temperature this day was 72 degrees, with a high of 96!

Second to 1995, was Father's Day 1988 (June 19), where the afternoon high was still a quite warm 91 degrees.

The Wettest Father's Day... June 16, 1974 
Also the noted as the coldest Father's Day on record above, a soaking 1.31 inches of rain fell during the 24 hour period.

The next highest rainfall recorded on Father's Day was in 1993 (June 20), where 0.82 inches of rain fell for the day.
