The following message is transmitted at the request of the Michigan State Police. Highway M-28 remains closed between Harvey and Wetmore. The combination of lake effect snow and gusy northwest winds off Lake Superior has resulted in widespread blowing and drifting snow, near zero visibility and white-out conditions. Those that must travel between Marquette and Munising may use highway M-94.
The latest update from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT Upper Peninsula @MDOT_UP twitter)...
- 10am update: M-28 Harvey/Wetmore closure: crews removing stranded vehicles and 6 to 8 foot drifts. Earliest expected opening 5 pm. Alt. route is M-94.
- 4pm update: Making good progress on M-28 Wetmore/Harvey. Two vehicles still need to be removed, and conditions still not good. Should know more soon.
-8pm update: M-28 will likely be closed for a few more hours as crews are still trying to get the stranded home.
