This year has the potential of being the first March on record at the NWS Marquette office in Negaunee Township where the High Temperature doesn't reach 40 degrees. The highest temperature recorded so far this month is 37 degrees on March 8th. The March that had the coldest average high temperature was in 1965, where only one day had a temperature above 40 degrees (March 2nd).
The next several days look to keep the below normal temperatures in place, but the longer range models are hinting at temperatures around 40 degrees for the last couple days of March. So stay tuned to see if we can break the record.
Note: weather records at the NWS Office in Negaunee Township go back to October 1961.
