A TORNADO STRUCK JEFFERSON COUNTY LATE IN THE DAY ON THURSDAY MAY
29TH.  THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SENT OUT A TEAM TO SURVEY THE
DAMAGE IN JEFFERSON COUNTY NEBRASKA.  THE TEAM HAS CONFIRMED AN EF2
TORNADO IN JEFFERSON COUNTY.

LOCATION...CONTINUOUS PATH FROM 2 MILES WEST AND 1 1/4 MILES NORTH
   OF REYNOLDS TO 3 MILES EAST AND 3 MILES NORTH OF FAIRBURY

IN JEFFERSON COUNTY NEBRASKA THE TORNADO STARTED 2 MILES WEST AND 1
1/4 MILES NORTH OF REYNOLDS...KNOCKING OVER LARGE TREE
BRANCHS...SNAPPING TREES AND OVERTURNING SEVERAL CENTER PIVOT
IRRIGATION SYSTEMS.  THE STORM TRACKED NORTHEAST...CONTINUING TO
SNAP WOODEN POWER POLES...CREATING TREE DAMAGE...AND DAMAGING GRAIN
BINS AND SHEDS.  THE TORNADO CROSSED THE LITTLE BLUE RIVER
APPROXIMATLY 2 3/4 MILES NORTHWEST OF FAIRBURY.  THE TORNADO TRACK
THEN TURNED EASTWARD WHERE IT STRENGTHEN TO EF2 STRENGTH.  IT TORE A
ROOF AND DESTROYED A GARAGE AND SHED 1 MILE WEST OF HIGHWAY 15.
HEADING EAST...THE TORNADO STRUCK FAIRBURY AIRPORT WHERE HANGERS
WERE DAMAGED.  EAST OF THE AIRPORT ...A LARGE BARN WAS DESTROYED AND
LARGE TREES WERE SNAPPED.  THE TORNADO LIFTED APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES
EAST AND 3 MILES NORTH OF DOWNTOWN FAIRBURY.  THE STORM SYSTEM THEN
CHANGED CHARACTER FROM BEING A TORNADIC STORM TO A WIND-PRODUCING
STORM...PRODUCING WIDESPREAD WIND DAMAGE ACROSS EASTERN JEFFERSON
AND GAGE COUNTIES.

THIS TORNADO WAS A CONTINUATION OF THE SAME TORNADO THAT MOVED FROM
JEWELL COUNTY KANSAS THROUGH REPUBLIC COUNTY KANSAS AND THAYER
COUNTY NEBRASKA...BEFORE CROSSING INTO JEFFERSON COUNTY NEBRASKA.
OVERALL...THE ENTIRE TORNADO TRACK FROM EASTERN JEWELL COUNTY KANSAS
INTO JEFFERSON COUNTY NEBRASKA WAS 54 MILES. THE TORNADO REACHED EF3
STRENGTH IN REPUBLIC COUNTY KANSAS.  BECAUSE INDIVIDUAL TORNADO
TRACKS ARE RATED WITH THE HIGHEST EF RATING ALONG THE PATH...THIS
PARTICULAR TORNADO WILL BE RATED EF3.
