The National Weather Service along with the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, and the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency have declared Winter Weather Awareness Day. For Nebraska, the day is November 5th, for Iowa it is November 12th.
Winter is just around the corner. We have already have had a taste of winter weather in Eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa . Cold temperatures, snow, wind, and ice will soon return again to Iowa and Nebraska. Dangerous winter weather not only can kill people, but can disrupt transportation and the local economy. Being prepared can mitigate some of the dangers that winter weather brings with it. With this in mind, the National Weather Service will be issuing Public Information Statements on winter weather during Iowa and Nebraska Winter Weather Awareness Days.
