Snowfall Ending Saturday Morning 2/28/09

A potent storm system over Wyoming and South Dakota Friday brought a foot of snow to north central Nebraska (Kilgore in Cherry County) and moved southeast during the day to central Nebraska overnight.  Occasional snow  throughout the afternoon, night and into Saturday morning accumulated to 2 to 6 inches across southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa.  Locally higher amounts were noted across Pierce and into Cedar counties with 6 to 9 inches of snow (see below).  As the visible picture below shows, the storm was exiting the area Saturday morning, thus southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa will see additions to their snowfall amounts.

Local snowfall reports:

West of Pierce: 9 inches (NERain), Randolph 8 inches (amateur radio), Osmond 6.5 inches (COOP observer) , Auburn 6.3 inches (COOP observer)

Norfolk 5 inches

Omaha 4.3 inches (3.6 inches plus 0.7" this morning)

Omaha/Valley NWS 5.5 inches (5.4 plus 0.1" this morning)

Lincoln 4 inches
