Early Spring Storm Drops Areas of Heavy Snow

An early spring storm has dropped areas of heavy snow over sections of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.  A relatively warm ground and air temperatures a little above freezing limited accumulations southeast of a line from Seward Nebraska to Missouri Valley and Harlan Iowa, with most of it only accumulating on grassy surfaces there.

Below is a graphic of snowfall totals reported to the National Weather Service office in Omaha/Valley through 1000 am Sunday.

Here is a radar image taken at 250 am CDT.  This band of heavier snow persisted for several hours dropping the heaviest snow from around David City and Columbus northeast through Tekamah and into western Iowa.

Below is an infrared satellite picture around this same time showing the enhanced deformation band of where the heavier snow was falling.

Here is a visibile satellite picture taken early Sunday afternoon 04/05/09.  Note the new snow cover showing up as the clouds depart.
