Strong Winds Associated with the Strong Winter Storm

 

 

After the area of low pressure reponsible for the heavy snow on Tuesday had moved off to the east, strong north and northwest winds increased across western Iowa and eastern Nebraska. The below image shows the strongest wind gusts reported at the automated weather stations through 5 am CST on Wednesday, December 9, 2009. The winds combined with the falling snow, leading to blizzard or near blizzard conditions.
