Record Snow on the Ground? Updated through 2/21/2010

Most of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa has had snow on the ground for over 2 months, including several weeks with snow depths over a foot.  The record lengths for snow depths on the ground at several thresholds are in the charts below.  The snow depth of record is what is measured on the ground at 6 am Central Standard Time.

Note that Omaha has had its longest duration on record (1948 to present) of snow deeper than 1", 2", 3", 6”, 9”, and 12” on the ground in the winter of 2009-10!  Lincoln would not break its 1” snow depth record until March 9, 2010, and Norfolk would have to wait all the way until April 8!
