Autumnal Equinox September 22, 2010

The autumnal equinox this year will occur on Wednesday September 22nd at 1009 pm cdt.  This will mark the first day of the season of autumn or fall.

On this date, the length of night and day are nearly the same. An equinox occurs twice a year, when the tilt of the Earth's axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun, the center of the Sun being in the same plane as the Earth's equator.
