Nationwide Emergency Alert System Test November 9th at 1PM Central Time

On November 9th at approximately 1 pm CST, Nebraska will participate in a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS).

The nationwide test of the EAS will be heard on local and satellite radio and seen on local, cable, and satellite TV for a period of about three minutes.  However, the test message will not be broadcast over  NOAA weather radio stations, as it is intended to test other parts of the communication system.

The national EAS is a public alert and warning system that enables the President of the United States to address the American public during extreme emergencies.

The NOAA weather radio routine weekly test that would normally be held on Wednesday, November 9, will be held on Tuesday, November 8.

No NOAA weather radio routine weekly test will be conducted on Wednesday, November 9, 2011.

As federal, state, tribal, territorial and local governments prepare for and test their capabilities, this event serves as a reminder that everyone should establish an emergency preparedness kit and emergency plan for themselves, their families, communities, and businesses.
