July of 2012 has been a hot month.  Up through July 31, 24 of the 31 days in Omaha have had highs of 95 or greater.  This is the number 2 in the record books.  The record number of July days with 95 or hotter is 25 days in 1936.  The average number is about 5.

For Lincoln, also 24 of the 31 days have had highs of 95 or greater.  This ties for 2nd in the record books, with 1974.  The record number of July days with 95 or hotter is 25 days in 1936.  The average number is about 8.

For Norfolk, 23 of the 31 days have had highs of 95 or greater. This ties for 2nd in the record books, with 1901. The record number of July days with 95 or hotter is 26 days in 1936. The average number is about 6.

Records date back to 1871 in Omaha, 1887 in Lincoln, and 1893 in Norfolk.

 

The streak of days with highs of 95 degrees or hotter ended on Friday July 27.  Thursday, July 26 was the 15th consecutive day across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa that temperatures were 95 degrees or higher!  This streak was just short of any official records.  In Omaha, the record for number of consecutive days greater than or equal to 95 degrees is 19 days, set back in July 1901.  The record for Lincoln is 20 days, set in 1901, and the record for Norfolk is 21 days, also set back in July 1901.  The second spot for consecutive days 95 or greater for the Omaha, Lincoln, and Norfolk is 18 days set back in July 1936.  The July 2012 streak ties for the 3rd longest at Omaha, is the 4th longest at Lincoln and is the 3rd longest at Norfolk.
