Summary of 2012 Meteorological Summer

Below is a summary of meteorological summer for selected sites.  What is meteorological summer?  It is defined the same each year, it includes the months of June, July and August.  Contrast this to the calendar definition of summer which varies each year depending on the timing of the summer solstice and autumnal equinox.  This past meteorological summer was warm and dry, but not record setting in every case.    The period of record for each site is as follow:  Norfolk (1893-2012), Omaha (1871-2012) and Lincoln (1887-2012).
