Seasonal Lake Wind Advisory product has started for the boating season

...SEASONAL ISSUANCE OF LAKE WIND ADVISORIES FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE (NWS) IN PADUCAH, KENTUCKY BEGAN SATURDAY APRIL 25...

BASED ON FEEDBACK FROM AREA BOATERS AT NWS PADUCAH, KY CUSTOMER
SERVICE WORKSHOPS...LOCAL BOAT SHOWS AND OTHER INPUT VENUES...THE
NWS IN PADUCAH BEGAN ISSUING LAKE WIND ADVISORIES...WHENEVER CONDITIONS
WARRANT...ON JULY 15 OF 2008.

THE LAKE WIND ADVISORY IS AN EVENT DRIVEN PRODUCT ISSUED ONLY
WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS OF AT LEAST 15 MPH ARE EXPECTED FOR MORE THAN 1
HOUR. FEEDBACK FROM AREA BOATERS INDICATES THIS WOULD GENERALLY
TRANSLATE TO AT LEAST 20 MPH WINDS ON AREA LAKES WHICH COULD CAUSE
UNSAFE NAVIGATION FOR MOST RECREATIONAL WATER CRAFT.

LAKE WIND ADVISORIES ARE GENERALLY INTENDED FOR RECREATIONAL BOATERS
IN SMALLER WATER CRAFT AND THEREFORE WILL ONLY BE ISSUED DURING THE
WARMEST MONTHS OF THE YEAR WHEN THE MAJORITY OF RECREATIONAL BOATING
OCCURS.  ROUGHLY MAY 1 THROUGH SEPT 30 ARE THE INTENDED INCLUSIVE DATES
FOR LAKE WIND ADVISORY PRODUCTS FROM THE NWS IN PADUCAH.  
 
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WILL NOT AFFECT THE ISSUANCE OF THE REGULAR
"WIND ADVISORY" WHICH IS ISSUED YEAR ROUND BY THE NWS IN PADUCAH
WHENEVER SUSTAINED WINDS OF AT LEAST 30 MPH ARE EXPECTED. SHOULD
SUSTAINED WINDS REACH 30 MPH....A "WIND ADVISORY" WILL BE ISSUED IN
LIEU OF THE "LAKE WIND ADVISORY".
