What are the odds of freezing temps in April?

- The danger of planting crops and gardens remains quite high. According to historical weather records for both Evansville and Paducah, the average date of the last freeze is around April 6.
- In 2007, a warm March was followed by the coldest April temperature on record at Paducah (21 degrees on April 8). Across a large swath of the U.S., extensive crop damage was reported. Refer to the local news article or national technical report on the billion-dollar crop disaster in April of 2007. (The national report is in pdf format from NCDC).
- When does the last freeze and last hard freeze normally occur in our region? Visit the Midwest Regional Climate Center (MRCC) for maps of the last freeze (32 degree) and hard freeze (28 degree) dates.
