THE FOLLOWING IS THE PRELIMINARY DAMAGE ASSESSMENT FOR
JACKSON COUNTY ILLINOIS.

 * EVENT TYPE.........EF1 TORNADO

 * EVENT DATE.........FRIDAY MARCH 23 2012

 * EVENT TIME.........BEGAN AT APPROXIMATELY 1224 PM CDT

 * EVENT LOCATION.....THE TORNADO BEGAN 3.5 NORTHWEST OF DESOTO
   ALONG TRUAX TRAER ROAD AND TRAVELED NORTHEAST TO 3.5 MILES SOUTHEAST
   OF DUQUOIN NEAR THE JACKSON...PERRY AND FRANKLIN COUNTY LINES.

 * PEAK WIND..........90 MPH

 * AVG. PATH WIDTH....125 YARDS

 * PATH LENGTH........7.5 MILES (THERE ARE SOME INDICATIONS THAT
   THE TORNADO WAS PERIODICALLY SKIPPING ALONG THE PATH)

 * INJURIES...........NONE

 * FATALITIES.........NONE

 * DAMAGE DETAIL......DOZENS OF TREES UPROOTED AND SNAPPED...MOST
   OF THE TREES WERE SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZED. ONE BARN DESTROYED.
   SEVERAL SHEDS AND CARPORTS DAMAGED. A FEW HOMES WITH MINOR
   DAMAGE TO SIDING. FLAG POLE BLOWN DOWN. THERE WERE NUMEROUS EYE
   WITNESSES AND NWS TRAINED SPOTTERS WHO SAW THIS TORNADO AND TOOK
   PICTURES AND/OR VIDEO.

 * EVENT LOCATION.....THE TORNADO BEGAN 5.5 MILES SOUTHEAST OF MOUNT
   VERNON OR JUST NORTHWEST OF OPDYKE.  THE TORNADO LIFTED ABOUT 5
   MILES EAST OF MOUNT VERNON JUST SOUTHEAST OF LIBERTY AND NORTH
   LIGHTHOUSE ROAD.

 * PEAK WIND..........130 MPH

 * AVG. PATH WIDTH....100 YARDS

 * PATH LENGTH........2.5 MILES

 * INJURIES...........2

 * FATALITIES.........1 FEMALE

 * DAMAGE DETAIL......A TIED DOWN DOUBLE WIDE MOBILE HOME WAS LIFTED
   AND TOSSED 100 FEET ACROSS THE ROAD AND WAS DESTROYED. THE
   UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE MOBILE HOME WAS CARRIED A COUPLE HUNDRED
   YARDS. ONE HOME HAD WINDOWS BLOWN OUT ON THE SECOND STORY AND
   SOME SIDING DAMAGE. ONE BARN WAS HEAVILY DAMAGED. A FEW TREE TOPS
   WERE SNAPPED OR UPROOTED. 2 BARNS WERE DAMAGED NEAR THE END
   OF THE TRACK.
