2012 appears to be the warmest year on record, locally and nationally

On both a local and national scale, 2012 was unusually warm.

The preliminary average annual temperature at Paducah and Cape Girardeau was the warmest of any year. The following are the three warmest average annual temperatures:

Paducah......

2012... 61.0

1998, 1991... 60.0

2007, 1954... 59.6

Evansville....

1921... 60.8

2012, 1931... 59.9

1938... 59.7

Cape Girardeau.....

2012... 60.1  

1991... 59.5

1990... 59.4

Records date back to 1937 at Paducah, 1897 at Evansville, and 1960 at Cape Girardeau.
