Information on fall freeze across the area

The average date of the first freeze (low temperatures of 32 degrees or colder) typically occurs between October 11th and 21st across our region.  Locations in far northern sections of our region (north of I-64) generally are in the earlier part of that range, as might be expected due to its more northerly location.  The first hard freeze, with lows of 28 degrees or colder typically occurs, on average, during the first week in November.

The maps below, courtesy of the Midwestern Regional Climate Center in Champaign IL, shows maps for the median date of a 32 degree freeze and a 28 degree hard freeze.
