Two unseasonably strong storm systems moving across the state this past month helped to make October 2009 one of the coldest Octobers on record across south Central and southeast Colorado. The average temperature in October 2009 for Pueblo and Colorado Springs was 46.1 F and 42.7 F, respectfully, which is over 6 degrees below the monthly average for October. In fact, the October 2009 average temperature of 46.1 F was the coldest on record for the month of October in Pueblo, breaking the old record of 46.9 F set in October of 1925. The October 2009 average temperature of 42.7 F in Colorado Springs was the third coldest on record, behind the 41.5 F and 42.4 F recorded for the month of October in 1969 and 1923, respectfully. The October 2009 average temperature in Alamosa was 40.4 F, which is over 2 degrees below the monthly average and makes it the fifth coldest October on record, well behind the average temperature of 38.5 F recorded in October of 1969.
