Heavy Mountain Snows Possible Next Week

A change in the weather pattern next week is expected to bring a prolonged period of potentially heavy snow to portions of the southwest and central mountains beginning Monday night and continuing through the weekend.  A series of weather systems will move across Arizona and New Mexico during this time period bringing several rounds of snow.  A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the Eastern San Juans, beginning Monday night and lasting through Tuesday evening. This storm may bring from 8 to 16 inches of snow to the Watch area.  More snow is expected late Wednesday, followed by the heaviest accumulatuions on Thursday and Friday.  Several feet of snow will be possible for some areas with the heaviest snowfall possible across the eastern San Juan Mountains including Wolf Creek Pass. In addition to hazardous travel over the passes, avalanche danger will likely increase signifcantly through the end of the week.  If you have travel or outdoor plans across the high country next week, please monitor the latest forecasts.
